2013 hyundai sonata review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Sonata delivers excellent quality in all of its iterations, with great manners, fuel efficiency and features, all at a competitive price. Sonata was completely redesigned for the 2011 model year.  the 2013 hyundai sonata gets an updated navigation system and slight adjustments to the standard feature list, depending on the model. Many other critics have praised sonata's look, however, and if it's confused with any other sedan, it's more likely to be mistaken for a lexus or some other luxury model than for another mainstream mid-size.  inside, features, materials and fit and finish are among the best in the class, especially in build quality and tolerances.  the 2013 sonata lineup starts with the sonata gls, which retails for about $21,000 and comes with a full complement of power features, cruise control, bluetooth connectivity and more power than other cars in its class. Another $825 adds heated front seats, automatic light control, fog lights and 16 inch alloy wheels. The 2. 0t, as hyundai calls it, satisfies america's perceived need for speed with 274 horsepower and excellent acceleration on regular-grade gas. While such an occurrence will be rare in the real world, the hybrid's blended gas-electric operation still improves fuel economy, with higher mileage ratings than similar hybrids from honda and toyota. Moreover, while the other hybrids in this class have a gearless, continuously variable transmission, the sonata hybrid gets the same 6-speed automatic as the other sonata models. The gls is equipped with air conditioning, a full complement of power features, 60/40 split-folding rear seat and a six-speaker, 104-watt audio system with single cd and satellite radio with a three-month subscription. The standard wheels are 16-inch steel with plastic covers. The gls popular package 825) adds a power driver seat with manual lumbar adjustment, faux leather door panels (in place of the base molded, hard plastic), heated front seats, automatic light control, fog lights and 16 inch alloy wheels.  sonata se 23,435) is the sporty model, with a firmer suspension, a manual shift feature with wheel mounted paddle shifters and 18-inch alloy wheels. It comes standard with the contents of the popular package, as well as leather trimmed steering wheel, shift knob and seat bolsters, and proximity key with push-button start. Limited comes standard with dual zone automatic climate control, rear console mounted vents, full leather seats, the 360-watt audio, heated front and rear seats, turn signal indicators in the outside mirrors, piano black or woodgrain interior trim accents, sunroof, auto dimming rearview mirror with compass and 17-inch aluminum wheels. The limited navigation package 2,900) adds navigation, rearview camera, a panoramic sunroof and hyundai's top level infinity audio system.  sonata hybrid is powered by a more fuel efficient 166-horspower version of the 2. 4-liter engine and a 40-horsepower electric motor. Epa mileage ratings improve, and hyundai claims the hybrid can run at speeds up to 62 mph on electric power alone. Hybrid features and options essentially mirror those of the se model.  beyond the packages, options are limited to dealer-installed features such as remote start 350), rear spoiler 250) and rearview mirror with homelink garage-door control 250).  safety features standard on all models include front-impact airbags, driver and front passenger side impact airbags, front and rear seat head-protection curtains, anti-lock brakes (abs) with electronic brake-force distribution (ebd) and brake assist, electronic stability control, active front-seat head restraints and a tire-pressure monitor. Hyundai's blue link crash-reporting telematics system comes standard, too, with a temporary subscription to basic services. The similarity says something about the styling department's intentions with hyundai's most popular sedan.  the sonata is marketed as a mid-size, but its exterior dimensions push the larger limit compared to the toyota camry, honda accord and ford fusion. Indeed, measured by total enclosed space, the sonata sneaks in at the bottom of the government's large-sedan class.  hyundai's designers throw around phrases like 'fluidic sculpture design language' and 'monoform side profile' in describing the sonata's styling. They say their goal was a car that won't be mistaken for any other. It's just that the sonata is not necessarily unique, and it's not as clean or sleek as the kia optima sedan, which shares its basic structure.  the front end on most sonata models has a pinched nose look echoing the hyundai genesis coupe. Sculpted creases flow forward and inward from the a-pillars (the windshield's side frames), drawing the eye to the grin like grille and outsized hyundai logo. Headlight housings start at the outer edges of the grille and wrap around the front fenders beyond the leading arch of the wheelwell, visually minimizing the front overhang. The lower fascia sports a wide mouth air intake flanked by squinting recesses for fog lights. The grille is body colored on the base gls, and dark chrome on the se and limited.  the hybrid's front end shows much of the same shapes and sculpting, but gets an entirely different and quite striking grille treatment, with an oversized, hexagonal opening split by an oversized horizontal bar. Hyundai wants everyone to know that this sonata is something special. The hybrid's headlights make a similar statement, highlighted with a string of led running lights laced around the projector beam lenses.  the side view of the sonata shows three sharply defined character lines below the roof. The roof itself tracks though a severely raked windshield and rear window and into a short trunk lid, minimizing the car's visual mass. The highlight is a chrome strip that starts at the headlight housing and runs along the car's beltline (where the side windows meet the door panels) all the way to the rearmost tip of the rear quarter glass. Below this is a knife edge crease sweeping up from the front quarter panel through the door handles, finishing as an eyebrow for the taillight housings.  another knife edge crease cuts across the bottom of the doors just above the rocker panels, before leapfrogging the rear wheelwells to melt into the rear bumper. On the hybrid, a chrome strip accents this crease. All three tire sizes fill perfectly circular wheelwells, giving the sonata a balanced front to rear proportion.  the rear view might be sonata's cleanest and best. It's an elegant look, with understated taillights, a minimalist chrome bar topping the license plate indent and a lower bumper element that mirrors the front fascia

2013 hyundai accent review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. A good value among compacts gets better. introductionthe hyundai accent was all new for 2012, roomier, more powerful, and modern in style than its predecessor. A subcompact, accent competes against the toyota yaris, honda fit, ford fiesta, chevrolet sonic, mazda 2 and nissan versa. According to the government, however, the accent's interior volume puts it in the larger compact class.  accent is longer in wheelbase and overall length than most of the competition, which means more room inside for people and cargo, and a smoother ride.  we found the accent very easy to drive. It's responsive but not quick, smooth by subcompact standards but not luxurious. Everything in the cabin is intuitive and easy to operate. It's an attractive design and the materials look nice.  with flowing lines and highly sculpted sheetmetal the accent looks like a smaller version of the elantra. That's not a coincidence. Accent shares hyundai's fluidic sculpture design theme with the high-priced sonata and elantra models.  accent's body shape carries a low coefficient of drag, 0. 30, which helps with wind noise and fuel mileage. The engine is rated at 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque. All new, like the rest of the car, for 2012, the engine is 40 pounds lighter than the one it replaced. Like the other cars in this class, the accent uses front-wheel drive.  the accent comes with a choice of 6-speed manual gearbox or 6-speed automatic. On manual-transmission models, there is an ecoshift indicator between the instrument pods to indicate the proper gear for all driving conditions. We liked the with the 6-speed manual but didn't care for the indicator as we think we know the proper gear better than the car does. The clutch pedal was light and easy to operate. The automatic features a shiftronic manual-shifting mode, allowing the driver more control over shifting. We preferred to just put it in drive and go.  fuel economy is slightly better with the 6-speed manual gearbox, which gets an epa-estimated 32 mpg combined city and highway rating, compared with 31 mpg combined for the 6-speed automatic. Fuel economy is an epa-rated 28/37 mpg city/highway regardless of transmission choice. A premium package 1,200) upgrades it with rear disc brakes, premium cloth seats, upgraded interior trim, cruise control, fog lights,16-inch alloy wheels with 195/50r16 tires, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, and bluetooth with voice recognition.  accent gs five-door hatchback with the 6-speed manual 14,795) comes equipped nearly the same as the manual-transmission gls but adds a rear wiper and defroster. The gs 6-speed automatic 15,995) adds cruise control.  accent se five-door manual 16,095) and automatic 17,095) come with all gs equipment and the content of the premium package from the gls; plus sport-tuned steering, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, side mirrors with turn signal indicators, and a rear spoiler. A power sunroof 900) is available on the se automatic only.  (all prices are manufacturer's suggested retail prices, which do not include destination charge and may change at any time without notice. Destination charge is $775.)  safety equipment on the hyundai accent includes front, side and roof curtain air bags, active head restraints, abs disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, traction control, and electronic stability control. walkaroundhyundai accent was all-new for 2012 and, aside from the equipment upgrades noted above, is little changed for 2013. Compared to 2011 and older models, however, this new-generation accent looks like the product of a different car company. No longer a jelly-bean-shaped rental transport unit, the hyundai accent has grown up to be a real, modern car.  it took a complete cosmetic makeover, with every panel on the 2011 model replaced by newer and flashier sheetmetal. And there's almost no chrome on the exterior other than the badges.  we like the sedan, especially when compared to the nerdy outgoing car, but we like the hatchback a whole lot better when it comes to pure eye appeal. Hyundai claims a respectable 0. 30 coefficient of drag for the sedan version, slightly higher for the five-door with the longer roof. interiorthe hyundai accent interior was totally redesigned for 2012. One additional change for 2013 is an upgrade to cloth-insert inside door trim for all models.  the latest accent has a far more modern interior than the previous model, with brushed metal accents on the doors, steering wheel and center console, white-on-black instrumentation with red needles, and a multi-function steering wheel. The elements have been redesigned for more room, more storage spaces.  sporty bucket seats feature superior cushions and bolsters. We found the seats comfortably supportive without being intrusive. Outward vision is excellent. The instrument panel, center stack, vents, switches and controls are all easy to look at and operate. The instrument package contains the usual two round gauges with digital readouts and indicators between the deeply tunneled clusters and is bathed in ice blue light at night.  the three-spoke steering wheel has a thick rim and a thickly padded hub. Lower models have urethane-covered steering wheels, upper models have convenient switches for the sound system on the left, cruise control system on the right, and telephone on the lower left. Flagship se models wrap the wheel in leather.  as for storage, the rated cargo capacity of the hatchback models is 21. 2 cubic feet behind the folding second-row bench seat, and 47. 5 cubic feet with the second seat folded flat. Accent sedans provide a still-generous 13. 7 cubic feet, which can also be expanded by folding the rear seatbacks.  door and console storage is generous, and upper-level models have a sliding console armrest, unusual in this class.  in the center binnacle, there is a usb port, an aux port, and the two combine to make a port for an ipod cable, a very clever arrangement. The engine is smooth and quiet, and runs at about 2200 rpm at 70 mph in sixth gear, and about 4400 rpm at 100 mph. The thrifty, gutty little gamma engine is surrounded by helpers like electric power steering, low-rolling-resistance tires, lighter elements throughout the engine bay and the rest of the vehicle.  it all adds up to accent's 28/37 mpg epa mileage rating city/highway.  the 6-speed automatic transmission performed quickly and quietly. It features an active eco mode that modifies engine management and transmission shift points for up to 7 percent better fuel economy, presumably at the expense of throttle response.  the 6-speed manual gearbox is easy to shift and the clutch pedal was light and easy to operate. Some models include an ecoshift indicator between the instrument pods to indicate the proper gear for all driving conditions. We did not care for this and generally find shift lights distracting.  going down the road, the accent is far smoother and quieter than we were expecting it to be. A rigid chassis, high-strength steel, generous sound insulation and effective door seals show in the car's quiet highway behavior.  we found the accent responds relatively quickly, has good tracking, relatively quick response, and good feel on center. Bump, rut and pothole damping is very good. Roll control on twisty mountain and desert roads was very good, and the car stayed put pretty well in hard corners. It's a complete package for an affordable price.  jim mccraw filed this newcartestdrive. Com report from las vegas; mitch mccullough contributed to this report after his test drive of the accent in new jersey. model lineuphyundai accent gls sedan 14,545), gls automatic 15,545); gs hatchback 14,795), gs automatic 15,995); se hatchback 16,095), se automat. 2013 hyundai elantra review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Coupe and five-door hatch join sedan lineup. introductionone of the best compact cars on the market, the 2013 hyundai elantra continues to be a winning combination of compelling styling, able performance and interior comfort. With unique styling cues and driving characteristics, the elantra coupe and elantra gt are positioned as sporty alternatives to the traditional sedan.  the elantra coupe is fun yet practical, and fits between the elantra sedan and the more enthusiast-oriented genesis coupe. A v-beam rear suspension, instead of the torsion beam found on the sedan, gives the coupe and gt a firmer, more planted feel, and helps to reduce body roll around corners. Suspensions are tuned differently between models with standard 16-inch and optional 17-inch wheels, with the larger wheels receiving an even sportier treatment. Although the base 2013 elantra gls model starts at more than $1,000 over the 2012 model, it gets more standard features including air conditioning, a telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, and 16-inch (instead of 15-inch) wheels. On gls models equipped with the automatic transmission, heated front seats are included with the optional preferred package.  we found all elantra variants enjoyable to drive. The sedan's smooth ride and responsive handling make for a plush, but not numb, driving experience. The coupe and gt models feel more connected to the road, without sacrificing road-trip comfort.  inside, the elantra sedan is roomy all around, especially by compact standards, with interior measurements comparable to those of a small midsize car. The coupe and gt, however, suffer from a lack of rear headroom due to the steeper rake of their rooflines. Like most compacts, elantra is front-wheel drive. Using lighter materials such as aluminum and plastic on engine parts helps to keep the elantra family relatively lightweight, around 2,700 pound for the coupe and a bit more for the gt. The sedan weighs in at around 2,900 pounds, which is good for a compact sedan. These lower curb weights help elantra achieve solid performance and excellent fuel economy.  epa ratings for all elantra variants are some of the most competitive in the industry. Sedans are rated at 28/38 mpg city/highway with both manual and automatic transmissions. That's better than the ford focus (26/36 mpg), chevrolet cruze (26/36 mpg), or honda civic (28/36 mpg). The elantra coupe is epa-rated at 29/40 mpg with the manual and 28/39 mpg city/highway with the automatic. The elantra coupe takes on the honda civic coupe and the kia forte koup, along with larger, more expensive two-doors such as the honda accord. All seat five.  elantra gls sedan 16,695) comes standard with the 6-speed manual transmission, cloth upholstery, six-way manual driver's seat, manually operated air conditioning, cruise control, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, six-speaker audio system with cd player, satellite radio capability and ipod/usb port; 60/40-split folding rear seat, power windows, locks and heated mirrors, tilt steering wheel, keyless entry, anti-theft system, trip computer, and 16-inch steel wheels. The automatic transmission 1,000) is optional. A preferred package 750) is available on gls models equipped with the 6-speed automatic transmission that includes heated front seats, cloth inserts on the door trim, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, sliding center armrest, bluetooth hands-free phone system with voice recognition, additional interior lighting, fog lights and alloy wheels.  elantra limited sedan 20,945) comes only with the automatic transmission and includes leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, leather-wrapped wheel and shift knob, air conditioning, minor cabin upgrades, power sunroof, fog lights, mirror-imbedded turn signals, black chrome grille, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The limited technology package 2,350) adds pushbutton start, dual automatic climate control, navigation with 7-inch screen, rearview camera, 360-watt premium audio system and automatic headlights.  elantra coupe gs 17,445) includes heated front seats, air conditioning, power accessories, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, steering-wheel mounted controls, sliding center arm rest, 60/40 split folding rear seats, a 6-speaker audio system with cd player, satellite radio capability, auxiliary jack and an ipod/usb port; fog lights and 16-inch alloy wheels. The automatic transmission is optional 1,000).  elantra coupe se 19,745) adds leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a one-touch-up driver's window, aluminum pedals, sport-tuned suspension, power sunroof, a hood insulator, side mirrors with integrated turn signals, a rear spoiler and 17-inch alloy wheels. The automatic transmission is optional 1,000). The elantra coupe se can also be equipped with the technology package 23,095) which includes the automatic transmission and everything found on the se trim plus dual automatic climate control, navigation with 7-inch screen, upgraded 360-watt audio system, rearview camera and automatic headlights.  elantra gt five-door 18,395) comes standard with manual gearbox, air conditioning, tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, heated front seats, cooled glove compartment, power accessories, cruise control, steering-wheel-mounted controls, 60/40 split folding rear seats, bluetooth handsfree phone connectivity, a 6-speaker audio system with cd player, satellite radio capability, auxiliary jack and ipod/usb port; hyundai's blue link telematics system, front fog lights, rear window wiper, rear spoiler, hood insulator and 16-inch alloy wheels. Elantra gt models equipped with the style package 21,145) get leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a power driver's seat with power lumbar, aluminum pedals, a driver's side auto-up window, panoramic sunroof, sport-tuned suspension, side mirrors with integrated turn signals and 17-inch alloy wheels. The elantra gt with the tech package 23,495) includes navigation, dual automatic climate control, pushbutton start, a rearview camera and automatic headlights. The automatic transmission is optional 1,000).  safety features on all models include front, front-side and side-curtain airbags, and electronic stability control with vehicle stability control, antilock brakes, brake assist, and traction control. Gt models get a standard driver's knee airbag. The optional rearview camera improves safety by helping the driver spot children and pedestrians when backing up. walkaroundthe hyundai elantra sedan looks striking with crisp, edgy styling. Most of the rest of the class looks dated by comparison. Viewed from the front, the hexagonal grille presents a more sinister grin than that of the mazda 3. The headlight housings wrap into the fenders, the trailing edge back as far as the centerline of the front wheels.
